A little share and a little tutorial...

I have had so much fun being guest DT over at Scraphappykat this month.. here is another share using the Glitz 'Dance in the Sunshine' range. I had so much fun with these goodies - they are just gorgeous colours and designs to work with...
I decided to make a giftbox for my mum for Mothers Day...

I thought I would also do a bit of a step by step on how I made those gorgeous cabbage roses.....

I used the Tim Holtz Tattered Florals die but you could use any similar shape die or punch... I cut three of each of the three sizes (as pictured) and inked all the edges. I used the Glitz 'Dance in the Sunshine' papers for this rose.

On ONE of the largest sized flowers, cut it down just a little to give a little more variation in the size.

Using a piece of foam (or something soft) and the round tip of a sharpie pen, work each petal in a circular motion until it curls up.. medium pressure is good.

It takes a little while to get through all 9 flowers but I think it's so worth it! I put each flower into the palm of my hand and manipulate it a little more until it's just right. Also make sure you alternate the petals when assembling them. I joined them with hot glue 3 at a time and then nested those three lots into each other .. you may need tweezers to get it just right (and to get that tricky little pearl in the middle!

And that's it... too easy right?... if you want to make the smaller ones, you just cut 3 medium and 3 small flowers and follow the same steps ... Have fun making these gorgeous shabby cabbage roses!

We are off on holidays to Bali on Wednesday so I wont be around for a while.. I will be doing one more post.. if I get time lol!

Dream, Believe, Soar....

I hope everyone has had a magical Easter.. we sure did... we ended up all over the county-side and I am totally exhausted!  Now hubby is away for 3 weeks so I am TOTALLY going to need some pampering when he gets back! Anyway... here is a little project I finished last night for a dear friend of mine.. this is her little girl Macy... look at those eyes!! Just gorgeous!! I was totally inspired by Stacey Young once again and it is very similar to my last canvas but I just love these colours so went with the flow...

I took some pics as I went along ... I find the creative process really interesting....
... last time I created a canvas, I followed a tutorial by Stacey Young and find her work so amazing!... this is what I learnt from her... you should check out her blog.. mind blowing stuff!!

ok here goes... I pick up my canvasses at second hand shops most of the time ... love giving them a new life! I covered this one with moulding paste....

.... and lots of it.. all over the sides too... I like plenty of lines and bumps - gives it texture!

next I pushed in some strips of bandages that I cut up and frayed out... the moulding paste holds them nicely!...

now for the fun part.... spray with any sort of spray.. I used Shimmerz Vibes (Jenni B Bleu and Sunset Strip)... I also sprayed some into the lid and dripped it on for more interest...

now for the embellies.. I just grab out a heap that have colours that might match and start playing with the composition... I also distressed and sanded the edge of the pic....

This is what I had first but it just didn't feel right... I kept playing and ended up....

changing the direction of the embellies and I was happier :) ...

I then added more and more layers under the pic (paper, doily trim and another cluster tucked under the top right corner for balance) and more interest and details in amongst the main cluster of flowers... isn't it strange when you just 'know' it's done... I love that feeling...

... and then for the final touch... GESSO... I dry brushed it all over to blend and knock back the brightness so the star of the show stands out.... last to go on was the 3 little words I want this angel to know... 'Dream, Believe, Soar' ...

Thanks for stopping by... I really can't wait to get started on my next one.. they are so addicitive! See you all soon! xoxox
